Born with physical deformities: Enlarged eyes, deformed orbital sockets, cheek structure. Irregular teeth and jaw structure, extended hands, flexible spine. Before his first birthday, he was determined to be an obligate carnivore, as well, intolerant of most plant foods.
Owing to his deformities, Simon Garou was raised in his parents' basement. He was well-cared for, un-abused, but by age twelve, he had yet to see daylight or meet an unrelated human being. He wasn't exposed to television, but he did have some literature, including the novel Secret of NIMH and a stack of dog-eared Superman comics. Lacking any external interaction apart from his parents and older brother, Simon's fantasy life grew unchecked, and he began to harbor the idea that he was, like the family cat and his own pet salamander, a pet belonging to another species entirely.
Puberty hit him hard. Severely vitamin-deficient his whole life, Simon became severely ill, bedridden. Worried by rising anti-mutant sentiments in the public, his parents waited three weeks before taking him from the basement for the first time in his life, intending to take him to the hospital. For the first time, Simon saw sunlight. It burnt his over-developed eyes, and his panic triggered his as-yet unsuspected secondary mutation. Simon teleported himself instinctively out of the light, winding up in a storm drain nearly a quarter mile away. Unable to conceptualize distances that great or tolerate the light of the surface during the day, he never found his way home. Instead, he gradually migrated towards the center of New York City, using the rampant subterranean tunnels and thruways as a new home. He was sighted there infrequently for a period of five years, mostly by subway workers and the homeless, and is wanted in connection with nearly two dozen murders. His whereabouts are currently unknown.
