I have a lump in my left armpit.  I've had one for a couple years in the same location, (Labelled #1 in this picture) but it was always small, hard, and painless.  The school doc told me it was nothing last time I was in.  About two months ago, it burst, just semi-solid puss like a very large zit.  I squeezed it dry, it came back to its old self, we continued our usual co-existance.  But at some point yesterday evening (7/12/07), it blew up to the approximate size of a peanut, and became unreasonably tender and sensitive to the touch.  The firm shape under the skin is assymetrical, coming to a sort of tear-drop point on the upper end, and as far as I can tell, smooth.  The skin doesn't slide over it, at all, so it's in the skin itself, though it feels deeper.  It feels like it goes to the bone.  At rest, it's about the size of a macadamia nut now.

Poking or squeezing makes either the lump or the flesh around it swell, and leaves it excruciatingly painful for a while.  I've just been bothering at it, and right now, it's the size of a large grape.  There's no redness, even when I've bothered it, and I think but am not sure that it's warmer than the skin around it.  It's large enough that I feel it when I move my arm, and it twinges sometimes when I chew, which is very strange.

Palpating it, it feels a lot like the lump on my bum, the one the school doc told me is either a sebaceous cyst or a lypoma, but closer under the skin, and a thousandfold more painful.  Also, the skin over the one on my bum slides freely.

It's too sensitive to consider lancing right now.  I'm a pussy, and the pressure of the needle tip is acutely painful.  I also have almost nothing in the way of antiseptic and first, just a tablespoon or so of peroxide and a lot of kleenex.  It didn't keep me from falling asleep last night, so I'm just gonna leave it until I get a day off and can go home and see my fuckwit of a GP.  Or until it gets horribly worse and hatches out spider-babies.   Either way, she's going to prescribe painkillers and send me home.

So.  I dunno if I should worry about glands or cysts or... can a tumor rise that fast?  It's not at all likely that it's a tumor.  Mmnope.

Can't you ask one of the pharmacy people about it? Maybe they might know something about it?

I don't recommend WebMD. That site just makes me paranoid like woah.

Well, now, that sounds a lot like a thing i got on the back of my ear, right over the bony part. Especially the part where if you touch it it goes FNEEAAOOOOWWWGETOFFME. I went to my GP (name: Dr. Snape. >_<) and she said it was where my glasses arms were rubbing. I'm still not convinced that's what it was, but it went on its own anyway.
yeah, I'd leave it and not lance it till you can get to a doc, myself - i can see it getting infected that way. the chewing thing kinda suggests it's bothering your lymph gland, up there.
*pets* get better.
